Bismark herring, herring, eel, mackerel, crab or pickled herring on an airy wheat bread and some salad are the key ingredients for a German fast food specialty : Fischbrötchen. While mostly enjoyed in Northern Germany, most of the country enjoys eating them. The freshest fish come directly from the fishermen and is smoked on site. The north or the Baltic Sea fish sandwiches are as cultural as the sausage for Bavaria and the currywurst for Berlin or the Ruhr.
Fish sandwiches are a culinary megatrend in Germany. Each year on the Baltic Sea in Schleswig-Holstein the "Weltfischbrötchentag" is celebrated on a Saturday in early May. Creative restaurateurs showcase their latest developments like fish rolls with eel and smoked sausage or fish eggs with mascarpone.
Theis year the Weltfischbrötchentag is celebrated on the weekend from May 1-4 2014 in Dahme and the surrounding towns. Dahme easy to reach with a flight to Hamburg and then about an hour with the car on the highway to the north.
