Altmühltal Nature Park is a perfect location to experience the wondrous landscape of the south of Germany. The warmer months are ideal for cycling, hiking, climbing, and canoeing. If cycling is your sport of choice, you'll enjoy the well-maintained cycling paths and accompanying beautiful views. The Altmühltal-Radweg is a popular long-distance cycling path covering 164km (101 miles). The path markings are clear and easy to follow, and if you don't have your bike with you it's possible to rent one in the park.
The park is also ideal for walking and hiking. Simply walking and taking in the atmosphere while following one of the park’s many trails is a lovely experience. Relax and breathe in the fresh country air as you explore this beautiful natural setting. Along the trails you can check out dolomite rocks, extensive woodlands, and winding rivers. Naturpark Altmühltal's myriad hiking trails offer a special view of the region and a chance to escape the busy pace of modern life. Get a glimpse into the past with a hike along the Limes wall, as well as past farms and watchtowers.
The Naturpark Altmühltal is more than just hiking and cycling, it's also a beautiful and compelling view into the past. After your bike ride, hike, or canoe trip along the river, be sure to check out the palaces, castles churches, and abbeys that can all be found within the park. The park offers regular guided excursions and tours focusing on important environmental issues. You can also learn about the limestone quarries and fossil finds in the region. The park has an impressive fossil exhibit from the Jurassic era and is known around the world for its fossils.
