Walking Trails and Hiking Around Titisee

Titisee, one of the largest lakes in Baden-Württemberg, is known throughout Germany for its stark beauty and incredible views. In the summertime you can hike, bike and swim through its glistening blue-black waters, and in winter months the lake freezes over for ice skating and other frozen fun. Surrounding the lake is Schwarzwald, or the Black Forest, which attracts hikers from all over the world due to its many trails and natural paths. If you're looking for the best in walking trails Titisee is the place to be!
But where should you start? With over 200km to explore, how do you know which places are worth your time? Here are a few ideas.
If you're just looking for a leisurely stroll to enjoy the sights, try any of the man-made paths that snake around the lake. Zweiseenblick, for example, is a popular viewpoint for tourists, and the Freiburg–Bodensee crosstrail cuts across Titisee with easily-read markers and trail guides. The lake itself gets plenty of visitors, so you won't have to worry about getting lost if you just follow the paths of those who came before you.
The Titisee ski resort overlooks the lake on the Titisee-Neustadt (Titisee-Neustadt vacation rentals | Titisee-Neustadt travel guide) border and provides ample opportunity for both extreme sports and simple winter hiking. Several paths extend from the resort into the Black Forest and surrounding areas.
Looking for something a little more difficult? Try venturing into the Black Forest. It boasts over 23,000km of footpaths and bike trails and is one of the best places in Germany to work up a sweat. Three main paths (Westweg, Mittleweg and Ostweg) offer long distance hiking. The path you'll want to take depends on your point of entry and intended direction (north-south vs. east-west). These are well-worn, well-traveled paths with colored lozenges as periodic markers, perfect for throwing away the GPS and letting your feet take you where they will. More demanding routes can be found on smaller and off-map trails, such as the Ortenau Wine Path in the west and Gäurandweg in the east. The Black Forest also interconnects with the E1 European long distance path, running south towards Schluchsee (Schluchsee vacation rentals | Schluchsee travel guide) and north back to Lake Titisee. Still not enough hiking for you? Try climbing the Feldberg (Feldberg vacation rentals | Feldberg travel guide), one of the highest mountains in not only the Black Forest, but the entirety of Germany. There's no better way to break in those hiking boots!
These are just a few of the trails and hiking points around Titisee. To truly know the walking trails Titisee you'll have to come and see them for yourself!
