The old town of Bamberg on the River Regnitz was declared a world heritage site in 1993. You will immediately feel home, once you arrive at your perfectly fitted vacation apartment and start to explore the charming city. Already one highlight to remember is a visit to the Schlenkerla tavern on the Dominikaner Strasse in the Old City. As you will discover, Bamberg has a long beer brewing history, and a unique kind of beer called Rauchbier, in English smoked-beer, is brewed by the Heller brewery and served in the cozy surroundings of the Schlenkerla. Along with this special type of beer try some yummy Franconian dishes!

Special Tip: Purchase a BAMBERG card! It is valid for 48 hours and includes a guided tour of World Cultural Heritage Fascination, a newspaper Fränkischer Day, free admission to selected museums and collections, and free travel on city buses.

Start the morning with a Bamberger Hörnla, a kind of pastry and a good cup of coffee, for example in the Austraße, better known as the Cafe mile behind the pedestrian zone or at the Upper Bridge. A guided city tour or a tour with audio guide gives you a first overview of the Bamberg attractions such as the Cathedral, the Old Court, the New Residence, Little Venice and many more. Guided tours start at the Tourist Information Office in Geyerswörthstraße 3. Schedule: between April to October daily at 10.30 AM and 2 PM, and between November to March daily at 2 PM.

Take a lunch break in one of the many authentic brewery pubs, before in the afternoon admiring the beautiful city from above. Climb the mountain Michaelsberg. This is the place of the monastery of St. Michael with his magnificent church, which is mainly renowned for a stunning painted ceiling. Afterwards, take a stroll through the city and check out the small shops and boutiques along the way.

To end a perfect day you might fancy a romantic candle light dinner over the rooftops of Bamberg! In such a panoramic position, the Altenburg (castle) is not only a World Heritage Site, but also home to a cozy restaurant, serving you the best, the Franconian cuisine has to offer. Choose a la carte delights or a 5-course set menu.

Day 3: The Gardeners Quarters and Bamberg's Museums

Today you explore the gardeners quarters and discover the museums of the city. Take a long walk in the City Park Hain, in the style of an English landscape garden. Another option is a walk through Garden City, perhaps combined with a visit to the Gardener and Hackers Museum. Other options are the Mussärol Herb Garden and the Sculpture Garden at the Bohemian meadow.

For lunch try some typical sausages or a meat-loaf in a Bamberger roll, before continuing your discovery weekend. Since the Bamberg Card entitles you to free or reduced admission to major museums, use the afternoon to explore the variety Bamberg has to offer. The Diocesan Museum displays the sacred glory of faience, or maybe you prefer the collection of paintings by old masters. If you like to learn more about the beer brewing history, a visit to the Franconian Beer Museum on the Michaelsberg is highly recommended. Around 1,000 exhibits are displayed in the historic cross vaults!

Enjoy a quiet evening in traditional Franconian atmosphere. In the quaint ambiance of the Mahrs-Bräu-Keller a menu will be served, that lets you experience the culinary aspects of local beer, combined with typical Franconian ingredients. Enjoy a truly culinary experience.

Day 4: Departure day - surrounding villages and Nature Parks of Bamberg

Drive by car or train to Pottenstein, Gößweinstein or Tüchersfeld in the Franconian Switzerland and visit the pearls on the upper Main, the famous pilgrimage church Vierzehnheiligen or the monastery Banz. In the countless restaurants of the pretty little half-timbered villages, typical Franconian delicacies are served. Alternatively to a car or train, you can explore the surroundings on the many biking and hiking trails, enjoying quality time in the beautiful landscape.

Be enchanted on board of an original Venetian Gondola on the Regnitz river, floating along the Old Canal and Little Venice, before admiring for a last time the versatility of the 1000-year-old city Bamberg.
