Travel Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival
From the airport rent a car or take a train to the town of Bingen. Bingen is home to the infamous Mouse Tower and is situated at the southern tip of the UNESCO World Heritage Site the Rhine Gorge. It is a small town which makes it ideal for touring on foot or bicycle rental.
Day 2: Rheinsteig St.Goarshausen - Kaub (22.4 km / approx 6 hours)
There are many beautiful hiking trails along the Rhine. Here we recommend the following. Well rested after breakfast, take your rental car to St. Goar-live. This sets the stage for the highlight of the entire long-distance Rheinsteig. The trail takes you past the world famous Katz Castle and Loreley Rock. There is also the Visitor Center Loreley, where you can obtain comprehensive information about the Heritage of the Upper Middle Rhine. Hiking through the vineyards will take you to many great vantage points of the Rheinsteig. By taking the Spitznack, with magnificent views of the Lorelei, or the Ross Stein of you can admire Oberwesel with Schönburg. By Dörscheid over the plateau of the Rhine, it is now back down to Kaub. Once there, it's back to the ship towards Bingen.
Day 3: Rheinsteig St.Goarshausen - Kestert (12.2 km / 4.5 hours)
After a hearty German breakfast, you can take your car or train to St. Goarshausen. Here you start from Hasenbachtal and walk up the hill with splendid views of St. Goar and the Rheinfels Castle. On the way to reach the Mouse Tower it is not unlikely to spot Eagles and Falcons. After, you walk further through the Pulsbachklamm up to Kestert. Return by bus or car to your apartment. In the evening you can experience a proper tasting with one of the many winemakers in the region.
Day 4: Jouney Home
After breakfast it is time to pack up! Hopefully you will carry with you many long-lasting memories of the beautiful Rhine River

How to maximize your savings and spend less during your Germany vacation?
You can cut down your vacation costs significantly by following these simple rules:
- Instead of eating out in restaurants most of the time your vacation rental apartment comes with a fully equipped kitchen. By preparing your breakfast and dinner yourself you can save lots of money, but you can also live a more authentic Germany vacation by trying out local foods and recipes. (see some German recipe suggestions.)
- Use public transportation instead of a rental car. We provide you with links and details on how to get around using public transportation. Check out the corresponding Live Like a German travel guide for more details.
