Speyer Cathedral, a basilica with four towers and two domes, was founded by Conrad II in 1030 and remodelled at the end of the 11th century. It is one of the most important Romanesque monuments from the time of the Holy Roman Empire. The crypt is of special interest, since it has retained its original condition to the present day. Being the official church of the Salic Emperors, eight German Emperors and Kings, four queens and a number of bishops were buried here.

Hours: 4/1 – 10/31: Monday - Friday 9am - 7pm, Saturday 9am - 6pm, Sunday 1:30pm - 6pm. 11/1 – 3/31: Daily 9am - 5pm. Not open for viewing during religious services. Religious Services: Sundays 7am, 8:30 am, 10am and 6pm. Changes possible in viewing hours on holidays. Admission to the crypt: 2 €.
