Steamer trips on the Elbe

Steamer trips on the Elbe
Steamer trips on the Elbe

Steamer trips on the Elbe are offered by the Saxon Steamship Company. With eight historical paddle steamers it possesses the oldest and largest fleet of paddle steamers in the world. Two modern salon ships complete the fleet. The section of the river covered stretches from Seusslitz near Meissen via Dresden to Decin (Czech Republic).

The trips on offer include panorama cruises through the Saxon Switzerland and the Saxon Elbe Land, short cruises to Pillnitz Palace, city tours, jazz and Dixieland cruises, and summer-night cruises with dancing. Further attractions are afternoon coffee cruises with as much coffee and cake as you please, and special surprise tours, where the destination remains a secret until the steamer casts off.

Check the Sächsische Dampfschiffahrts website for timetables and ticket prices.

There are two ways: 1. you go from 12:45 or 16:15 of Bad Schandau or Pirna 14:45 2. The return trip to do the best by train - it takes too long with the ship. The cost is per person about 16-20 Euro. One reservation I would not like to take over. Your own luggage it can take at your own risk on board. Bicycles for example only be taken on board if sufficient space is there. What is your luggage and when they will travel to Dresden: Summer or winter?
Answer provided by Gaston Remels on 01/03/2017

The Saxon paddle wheel steamers are liners on the River Elbe between Meißen and the border to Czech Republic. It`s allowed to take luggage on the boats. Also you can take your bicycle with you on boats, if there are available capacity. In the middle of summer it`s not always possible. I advise you to take the luggage and bicycle from the boat if you leave it, because you dont reach the same boat for return. It is the oldest fleet of paddle wheel steamers with the most quantity of these boats in the world. You will experience awesome historical technic, the sound of paddles and steam engine and an amazing panoramic view to the riverside, particularly the original sandstone rocks between Pirna and Königstein. If you choose a vacation home in Pirna you will have an central point to Dresden and Saxon Sitzerland. There are bus station, railway station, landing stage for the boats and also many restaurants for dinner in a picturesque old town. Best regards from Claudia Hinze

The five Elbe bridges are the focus of so-called "bridge tour", which by evaporation in summer without a stop also at the uptown bubble wit and Losch joke.
