Naumburg Travel Tip:
Marientor
The Marientor in Naumburg
Some parts of the medieval town fortifications survive, including one of the old town gates, the Marientor. This is the only town gate fortress of the original five that survived. It is a rare example of a double-gate fortress with a curved courtyard completed with gate-houses and battlements. The main building is from the 14th century. Now it is used in summer for open air events such as Nine Naumburg Nights
, cinema screenings and theatre performances.
Hours: the inner rooms of the Marientor are open mid-March to the end of October from 10am - 4:30 pm daily with a wonderful view of the city.
