Florentiner - a traditional christmas biscuit from Germany with an Italian touch.
The namesake for this pastry is Florence, where the recipe originated. Florentines are round cookies made of almonds and candied orange peel, lemon peel or candied fruit pieces. The underside is coated with chocolate. Florentines are traditional Christmas sweets in many parts of South Germany.
Ingredients:
- 250 g butter
- 250 g sugar
- 100 ml cream
- 80 g of honey
- 200 g almonds, chopped
- 200 g almonds, slivered
- 100 g orange peel
- 100 g cherries candidate
- 200 g mixed candied fruit (cut the candied fruit nice and small)
- 250 g dark chocolate coating
Procedure:
Mix all ingredients (except the chocolate coating) in a saucepan and bring to a boil while stirring gently. Then set larger drops of the mixture on a baking sheet lined with baking paper using a teaspoon. Bake in a preheated oven, at 180 degrees C, for about 7 minutes. Remember that the unbaked cookies will still spread out somewhat! Let cool on the baking sheet. While still warm, the cookies will be very soft. Warm the chocolate coating - let it cool down - and then melt it again. This way, its sheen will be more beautiful! After cooling, cover the bottom of the Florentines with chocolate.
