Day 4 - Bad Dürrheim

Bad Dürrheim is a town in the district of Schwarzwald-Baar, in Baden-Württemberg, in the southeast of the Black Forest. The healing effect of thermal water is long known here and the 12.000 square meter large spa and health center Solemar is, not only because of its impressive architecture, one of the finest spas in Germany. The domed roof, a structure made of wood and glass was designed by the same architect of the Olympic Stadium in Munich and is already worth a visit. The Bad Dürrheimer Sole primarily comes from salt mines and is pumped up to the surface from a depth of over 200 meters from underground salt sticks. At high concentrations and different temperatures the soothing salt water exerts its quadruple healing powers. It relieves muscles and joints, strengthens the cardiovascular system, clears the respiratory tract and has a positive effect on skin regeneration. The pool area offers a variety of soothing attractions such as massage jets, a waterfall, jacuzzi tubs with different temperatures, and hourly water gymnastics. Another highlight of Solemar is the rustic Black Forest Mill in the outdoor area, which was modeled from an original dating back to the year 1777. It houses two large comfortable saunas and offers a refreshing shower under the huge mill wheel after the sauna bath. A large park and a sun Solari Gallery is available, as well as a Mediterranean style area with the Kneipp garden, sandy beach, a large sun terrace and an inviting lawn. The Dead Sea salt cave is a perfect complement to the brine and has a beneficial effect through the pure, ionized air, in conjunction with sound and light effects. A restaurant named Mühlenstüble and a boutique are additional features at Solemar.

Day 5 - Mountain Feldberg

The municipality of Feldberg is situated in the southern part of the Upper Black Forest at a height of 1,493 meters above sea level, which makes it the highest mountain in the Black Forest. It lies in an area of mountains and lakes in the biggest nature protection area of Baden-Württemberg. Switzerland and France are only an hour away by car. In summer Feldberg is the ideal place to visit for hikers, Nordic walkers, bikers, offering a wide variety of trails and tracks. In winter you can indulge in your favorite winter sport. You can choose from 28 lifts and 50 kilometers of downhill runs within the Feldberg Lift Network. A special tip is the all-the-year-round exhibition - both permanent and changing - which can be visited on days when the weather is not so pleasant!

No other region of Germany has such a variety of local products on its doorstep as the Feldberg. The fertile soil of the Kaiserstuhl and Markgräferland, combined with strong farming traditions guarantee products of the highest quality. Goat and lamb from mountain pastures, fresh game from local forests and the famous Black Forest beef ham are true delicacies. Freshwater fish, fruit and vegetables from the valleys make the selection complete. Healthy, ecological and farm products make a meal in the Black Forest a real experience.

Day 9 - Black Forest Railway

Today take a ride on the unique Badische Schwarzwaldbahn, Black Forest Railway, with its breathtaking views, 39 tunnels and 2 viaducts! Passing through spectacular scenery directly across the Black Forest, the route ascends 650 meters from the lowest to the highest elevation. It is still the only true mountain railway in Germany built with two tracks, and is the most important railway line in the Black Forest. The Railway was built between 1863 and 1873, utilizing plans drawn up by Robert Gerwig. The section between Hornberg, Triberg and St. Georgen is particularly interesting and was also the most demanding part in terms of construction, so it was completed last. More than 120 years after its opening, the stretch is still regarded as a great feat of engineering. It is now used both by the Deutsche Bahn for its regular services as well as for special trips with nostalgia trains. If you are heading north you might like to stop your trip in Hornberg, located in the Gutach Valley. The district of Reichenbach is one of the 3 villages which are the home of the famous Bollenhut, a traditional ladies' hat topped with pom-poms.
